It is shown in monochrome, greyscale, and black. Only half of them are visible in the dark and those hideous eyes are topped with a ridiculous grin that proves irresistible (that inspires a momentary gasp of fear). It teaches the viewer about the mysterious nature of the object (i.e. interaction between light/dark and between positive/negative space).
In addition, the easily discernible silhouette, and the roughly contoured shadow, are the two that produce the image of war light/darkness. Perhaps, thinking art is the most artistically important for those who seek its true essence because thinking art is not hard to identify, its beauty is very near at hand, and its dissonant counterpart is not very far away.
